Breakfast is basically a love language at my house.
We have brinner–breakfast for dinner–once a week. My boys go nuts for pancakes. Nathan is the best hashbrown maker in the whole wide world. And I’m always like “Give me all the breakfast burritos.”
That’s why I’m sharing a Valentine’s Day breakfast recipe with you. Breakfast is love. It is. It totally is.
Chocolate covered strawberries are the ultimate Valentine’s Day treat. Every year, Nathan and I celebrate by making a heart-shaped homemade pizza and chocolate covered strawberries. We have fun in the kitchen together. And I’m pretty sure he enjoys the rare moment when I’m not breathing down his neck asking why he didn’t put anything under the dirty spatula before setting it on the counter.
Or telling him that perfectly placed pepperoni tastes better.
I am so thankful he loves me.
This French toast makes the perfect Valentine’s Day breakfast. Smothered in strawberry syrup, it’s hard to resist. I use cinnamon bread because I have a thing (as evidenced by these doughnuts) for cinnamon and chocolate. It’s pretty amazing. Promise. But if you’re hesitant, don’t worry. Regular bread would be great.
The melty semi-sweet chocolate chips between the bread layers pair well with the tartness of the strawberry syrup. It’s like chocolate and strawberries were just meant to be together. Forever.
A crumbly topping makes this French toast even more irresistible. And I haven’t even told you the very best part about this breakfast yet! Overnight, baby.
Get yo’ head outta the gutter. Overnight. As in preparation the night before.
Oh yeah, I went there. Couldn’t resist!
Make it before you go to bed and put in the fridge. When you wake up, all you’ll need to do is heat the oven and bake it. Talk about easy.
I’m a big fan of this strawberry syrup because it’s a twist on my favorite fruity pancake syrup. But if you are wanting to simplify things, store-bought strawberry syrup would be wonderful, too.
And while you’re making plans for your very own Valentine’s Day breakfast with this French toast, be sure to add bacon to the grocery list.
Because, you know. Bacon is also a love language.
