I’m Ashley. I’m Wife to a crop doctor–yes, they exist, and they’re called agronomists. His name is Nathan. I’m Mom to two superhero-obsessed little boys. Their names are Garrison and Kase. I’m also Mom to furbaby cat Thomas and furbaby dog Ruby. It’s a full house, and I love it.
I live in eastern Nebraska. The weather can be crazy, but the sunsets are always beautiful. I grew up in The Cornhusker State, and I’ve lived in Indiana, Kansas, and South Dakota. Small-town and college-town life are what I know. I am a proud alumna of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Go Big Red!), where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Food Science & Technology. I’m also a proud alumna of Purdue University (Boiler Up!), where I received my Master’s degree in Youth Development and Agricultural Education. I work for a community-based education program.
I’m inspired by food. For me, food stirs up old memories, and it inspires new ones. I’ve always loved being in kitchen. It energizes me, and it’s my creative outlet. There’s nothing better than seeing my family and my friends enjoy the fruits of my labor. I’m not culinary professional. I’ve learned the art of making tasty things from my mom and grandmothers. I’ve learned from the food blogging community. I’ve learned through recipe failures and my own mistakes.
When I think of a table, a lot of things come to mind. I think of family dinners. I think of board games and card games. I think of heart-to-heart conversations. I think of Play-Doh, glitter glue and paper. I think of decorating cookies. I think of great food. And I think of great company.
Life happens at the table. So that’s the heart behind My Midwest Table. To share the life at my table: my family, my recipes, and a whole lotta stuff in between.
I’m glad you’re here, and I do hope you plan to stay awhile. The table’s all set.
